Dragon fight by Ikleyvey Dragon fight by Ikleyvey
I did this a while back, but my scanner started working just now :P
Done with a ballpen on a paper.
These are two different types of dragons - the one on the left is a standard design, I guess... The right one is actually from my story, so he is a little different than the regular type. The three spikes on his lower jaw are useful when hitting enemies from the side. xD
Anyway, who would you vote for? Which design you like more?

I like the one on the right. How long does it take you to draw the scales?

I'm glad you like it! Well, it took me two days to draw this. The first one I spent on drawing the outlines and the second... the scales xD

oh, a lot of time for the scales.. I guess it's the same for everyone who draws scales on any animal. I wanted to ask cos it took me a long time too, but maybe someone out there has a method for them, idk XD

Hey, you know, I've been searching for a method for a long time now too :D But I haven't found something that helps to draw scales in minutes unfortunately... xD The only thing I found is that the scales bend on curved surfaces and then they form a structure that resembles a net. They look narrower near the edge.

hmmm thanks for the tips! This is just for mapping, but I usually just draw diagonal lines (it should make diamond shapes), and then I just draw scales on top..but depending on the direction, it can  get confusing and when it comes to perspective, It's difficult to for-shorten them cos there's so damn many of them lol!

You're right! For me, the most difficult parts are near the mouth and on the lower jaw... I just don't know which way they should go!
